The reason for the seasons…Persephone. In Greek Mythology, the beautiful Persephone was abducted by Hades, the God of the Underworld, to be his wife. Persephone’s mother, Demeter, goddess of agriculture and growth, despaired; all the vegetation on the earth dwindled and died. As humankind cried out, Zeus knew something must be done…and thus he relented and allowed Persephone to come back to the world of the living.
Alas, Hades tricked Persephone before she could leave, and offered her food. She ate six pomegranate seeds, and once you’ve eaten the food of the Underworld you must stay there! Diplomatically, Persephone’s time was divided between her Mother and the world of the living, and her husband in the world of the dead. Thus, the changing seasons were explained.

Thanks to The Bead Table, our private FB Group for our beadshop.com community, the idea of a Goddess Bracelet was borne…from there, the Goddess Wraps came about! Drea tried her hand at her own version and loved the results.
The button is held in place with a Silk Wrap using the same .5mm Leather as the base of the wrap. A Pomegranate Czech Roller sits atop a short section of macramé done with KO Thread, which is then used to ladder a pattern of alternating 5mm Rondelles and pairs of 11/0 Seed Beads.
Two more Pomegranate Rollers (with a simple overhand knot between them) transition into the second wrap, the Goddess Bracelet technique, done with half Antique Silver Melons to represent light and half dark shades of red…Red Picasso to represent the Underworld and Red Ruby to represent the 6 Pomegranate seeds Persephone ate (this is also echoed in the 6 Pomegranate Roller Beads used in this bracelet…Drea likes symbolism, what can we say?).
A second set of Pomegranate Rollers and a knot transition into the third and final wrap, macramé with Regular C-Lon and a pattern of seed beads. Every other beaded knot is either a single 11/0 or a trio of 11/0-8/0-11/0…keep your smaller beads on the outside of these “petal” sections to help them curve away from the leather a bit. This final wrap ends with a 6th and final Pomegranate Roller, another leather silk wrap to secure the button loop, and a charm.
