Mystic — August 2026

Camille Rose Garcia is a contemporary American artist known for "Pop Surrealism", a movement blending dreamlike imagery with pop culture elements like cartoons, comics, and graffiti. Miranda has been in love with Garcia's work since she was 14 years old, and chose her piece "Into The Mystic" as the inspiration for her birthday month's mix, paired with Miyuki drops in fantastical colors. And, like last year, she couldn't resist putting a darker twist on another mix!

Ethereal without being delicate, haunting without losing its warmth, her work reminds us that magic often lives in the shadows. Electric blues and shimmering aquas melt into glowing greens, while flashes of raspberry and soft pink bring unexpected moments of light. Opaque black anchors the palette, adding depth and contrast that lets every color shine a little brighter.

Garcia created "Into The Mystic" during the 2021 pandemic and California wildfire season. She writes: "The fires came and I evacuated to the northern California coast. There was an otherworldly quality to the sun in the smoke-filled skies... This painting started a new direction for me, in which the figure has been removed entirely, forcing the viewer to supply the missing figurative element."
