Viva la Vida. A Limited Edition Necklace Kit by Kate

A note from Kate...

I’ll be honest, I’ve been hoarding these beads for a while! I knew they were special, but I wasn’t sure what direction to take them in. Then this past weekend, after a joyful painting class that got me thinking about color in new ways, inspiration finally struck. Wednesday's LIVE on Crescent Earrings, created as a tribute to Lola Álvarez Bravo, also had me thinking of her dear friend Frida Kahlo. And suddenly, it clicked: these beads belong in a necklace that Frida herself might have worn.

When arranged in color order, they form a gorgeous ombré effect—vivid, bold, and full of life. That’s why I’m calling this design Viva la Vida (Long Live Life), after one of Frida’s last paintings and as a reminder of how fleeting and precious our days truly are.

This kit includes:

• A curated mix of semi-precious beads

• A sprinkling of African trade beads and metal accents

• 0.5 mm leather cord

• A button closure

The necklace is long enough to make one dramatic piece that wraps twice around the neck, or two shorter necklaces—it’s your choice!
