Sample by Robin Tobias
Seen growing on live oak and cypress trees around the Southeast United States, Spanish Moss flowers, grows, and then drapes itself along the branches. Also found in humid and hot climates around the world, it seems magical in the way it adds drama and color to the surrounding brown tree limbs. Robin was inspired to create a stunning 7-wrap bracelet that celebrates the greens of Spanish Moss. Using just three types of beads, a button, leather and some cord, she has created a design we hope you’ll enjoy making and wearing for years to come.
The Spanish Moss Sample is a 7-wrap design that measures 49 inches in length from the button shank to the end of the button loop. It will fit up to a 7 inch wrist. Cut your leather 108 inches in length (3 yards). The Ingredients are NOT enough to make two bracelets, but will leave you with leftover beads if you need to ladder to fit a larger wrist.
A challenge of making a multiple-wrap design is allowing enough room for the beads to move a bit as they circle your wrist. We ladder beads to leather when the project is secured to a board and straight, but when we wrap it multiple times in a circle around the wrist the beads need more room to breathe or they will start to pop out of place...which we hate! As you are laddering make sure not to overtighten and crowd the beads too close together when they are side-by-side. Taking the time to check the tension before you end the piece will make all the difference in the world.
