Sample by Kate Richbourg
We were so excited to add TierraCast's Finishing Touches Collection to our inventory! And, we knew just who to turn to for design ideas...BSDT member Danielle! She has made some truly incredible pieces using this collection that Kate showcased on FTF. Using the Herringbone/Ndebele stitch, these earrings work themselves out into a colorful fan. LOVE!
For the full tutorial, check out the Free Tip Friday video above.
Here are Kate's Row-by-Row directions:
ROW 1: Using 11/0 seed beads, make a Herringbone base row with a double stack of 8 beads across. (Kate used the Matte Opaque Cobalt Luster)
ROW 2 & 3: Using 8/0 seed beads, make a Herringbone row using a single stack of 8 beads across. (Kate used the Matte Matte Metallic Brick Red)
ROW 4: Using 8/0 seed beads, repeat Row 2. Add an 11/0 seed bead between each herringbone section. (Kate used Salmon Silver Lined 8/0 and Cobalt Blue 11/0)
ROW 5: Repeat Row 4.
ROW 6: Repeat Row 4 using two seed beads between each herringbone stack.
ROW 7: Use 3mm Marsala (replaced with Picasso Opaque Red) Fire Polish to make the herringbone segment and use the 4mm Iris Blue Fire polish between each stack as done with the 11/0 seed beads in previous rows.
ROW 8: Starting with the first herringbone segment, make a three-drop picot using two galvanized pewter and one cobalt 11/0. Use one galvanized pewter 11/0, one 3mm Marsala (replaced with Picasso Opaque Red) Fire polish and one galvanized pewter 11/0 between each herringbone section. Repeat until end of row. Weave off end, or if enough thread remains, weave thread up to start of Row 1 and add two double stack rows of herringbone stitch. This is the segment for gluing the crescent crimp. If using a larger crimp, like the Marrakesh Crimp, add a final 5th row of 11/0 seed beads. Glue crimp in place using E600 or Zap Glue. Let cure and add ear wire or other adornments as desired.
