Project and Sample by Ellen Gradman
Our own Ellen created these earrings to wear this weekend to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Purim. The Story of Purim is about a brave woman, Queen Esther, who stands up for her people and saves the community. The earrings were inspired by ancient Persian jewelry and poppy seed Hamantaschen, a traditional triangle cookie filled with a variety of fillings. Poppyseed is Ellen's favorite! Purim is celebrated by exchanging food and drink, donating to charity, dressing up in costumes, attending carnivals, and hearing to story of Purim read. Ellen's Esther earring takes the inspiration from the Purim traditions but makes a fabulous earring to wear just about anywhere this Spring and Summer. Easy to dress up or down, the swingy fringe and Miyuki drops add a dash of fun...we liked them so much we made them a project. Thanks, Ellen!
