What a perfect bead for a mala! It has enough presence to weight the mala by the tassel and the hole is large enough to fit multiple cords. When they were made, dyed serpentine in brown was so popular. It does have the look of wood. Expect each bead to have unique coloring. The dye has stood the test of 20 years...we think it’s permanent!
