Project and Sample by Kate Richbourg
It's time to explore the Expedition Bracelet. Leather, chain, and a clasp...such a simple recipe with such outstanding results! In preparation for The Great Bead Extravaganza's Spring Fling next weekend, we have three limited-edition kit colorways. Kits sold out, or want to create your own colorway? Refer to the linked recipe above!
With the name of this project, Expedition, in mind, we thought it only right to name these 2022 samples after women explorers: Bessie Stringfield, Amelia Earhart, and Sally Ride.
Kate created each sample with the sense of adventure and excitement that these women kindle. Bessie is a collection of copper and berry tones--pretty and a bit tough! Named for Bessie Stringfield, who was a motorcyclist. She became the first Black woman to ride solo across the United States! She faced racism and sexism throughout her life and career, but persevered to make a name for herself, breaking barriers and stereotypes along the way. Known for her tricks, long trips, races, and work as a motorcycle currier for the US Army in WWII, she rode her motorcycle right up until the time of her death in 1993, at the age of 81!
You may want to review the original Expedition project, and be sure to tune in to Kate's upcoming live shows to learn about the kits and how to create your own Expedition Bracelet:
