The story of Hana Thread by Midori Matsui, founder.
“I started Midori, Inc. wholesale ribbon business in 1989 and ran it until my daughter, Aya took it over at 2009. We specialized (and still do) in high-end, quality ribbon. Our ribbons have been used by Martha Stewart, Oprah, The White House, department stores, florists, wedding planners and more. I am so proud that my daughter, Aya continues to thrive with the business that was started with so much passion and love.
I have always been interested in beading, and when I retired, I became a member of the Northwest Bead Society. I also joined my friends' monthly craft night. We eat, craft and chat. It means a lot to me to have this group of friends. One night, we talked and remarked about SONO thread, our thread of choice at the time, and how it came in just five colors. That gave me an idea! Why not make thread myself? I am originally from Japan and thought, ‘If I can do ribbon, I think I can do thread.’ And now, Hana Thread is here.
Hana is my youngest daughter's and my grandmother's name. It means blossom. My wish is that through Hana Thread, I can help grow a community that values and brings joy, friendship, and creativity into our lives and our beading.”
