Project and Samples by Kim Golias

Kim discovered that the TierraCast Oasis Links give you the perfect opportunity to create a teardrop earring with a built-in loop to connect a charm. Acting as attached 8/0 seed beads, the “prongs” on these components make it easy to sew into various widths and adapt to bracelets, necklaces, and earrings. Each finding has two different decorative sides which makes it even more compelling.

Three 8/0 Miyuki seed beads or four 11/0s fit between the “prongs.” It’s also sized perfectly to fit a single 6mm CzechMates Tile! As you can see, the design possibilities are vast...have fun creating and follow along with Kim's great handout to help you on your way to a pair of fab earrings!

Find general ingredient quantities and ideas for Oasis Link Earrings listed above. For specific ingredients used, see lists below. Many ingredients Kim used are no longer available, so please note that each list will link you first to the broad general category for that item, and then, where possible, link you to the exact color/style used. For example, the word "earwires" will link you directly to all earwires, and then after the "-" symbol you'll be linked directly to the specific earwire used.

Instructions:

Step 1
Gather a variety of beads from 11/0 and 8/0 seed beads up to 6mm beads. Remember that beads are not all exactly the same size so experiment with what will fit into the Oasis finding. Before beginning find a second set of beads that fits the other component so your earrings match.

Step 2
Cut a 10-12” strand of Fine C-lon. Start from the bottom, at the Oasis Link, and string your beads upward in a pattern of your choice. Bring your two strands together through a single bead. Tie the first half of an overhand knot and your teardrop should take shape. If it isn't to your liking, adjust the pattern until it works for you. Once you've decided on a pattern, tie a complete knot.

Step 3
Decide on your loop preference and earring finding. Two options shown here are a macramé loop and clamshell finding.

For the macramé loop, pin your earring to a macramé board using the loop of the Oasis Link.  Without pulling too tightly, secure the  threads for the loop through a slot in your macramé board.  Cut a second strand of C-lon and macramé about 1.5 - 2” over these threads. Add a jump ring before closing the loop!  Finish by gluing and trimming your thread, thread burning the ends, or feeding your threads back up through the completed macramé knots.

For the clamshell version, feed your C-lon through the bottom hold of the clamshell.  Tie a double overhand knot, tighten, glue, and trim. Close the clamshell over the knot.
With either option allow glue to dry before trimming.

Step 4
Add earwire to the top, and a dangle at the bottom! Charms, tassels, a briolette or drop, beads on a headpin...embellish away. Check out Kim's handmade rewires on Green Goddess-Tassel Version.
