Project by Alley Mori
Sample by Kim Golias
Inspired by a painting by Claire Koperwas
This summer, we have a fresh spin on our Farmer's Market series. When we welcomed our new photography and graphics guru, Claire, to the BSDC team we discovered something fun: Claire sells her artwork at her local Farmer's Market! The gears started turning...what if, instead of being inspired by photos of fruits and veggies, we took Claire's artwork as inspiration? It is a fun one-off that we could not resist. So say hello to Claire, her artwork (find her paintings here!), and four new samples for Farmer's Market, each one inspired by a painting of Claire's.
Leita is a two-fer! Kim made two bracelets to wear together (or separately!), inspired by Claire's painting of a mountain path through lush purple trees. Using three strands of twisted macramé, one bracelet takes the purply-pink hues into account, leaving the second bracelet, a 4-wrap, an ombre masterpiece of laddering and macramé. Leita means "seek" in Icelandic, which Kim felt the wanderer of this pathway might be doing...looking for something mystical and unknown to all but her!
*Full disclosure: Kim used many colors of seed beads here! Definitely a project to stash-dive on and find what works best for you. Her green section on the laddered wrap uses some beads from a mix we no longer carry, so we tried our best to replace those beads with items currently on our shelves. Don't stress about bead-for bead here...just seek your own path with your own colors. You do you!
For the 4-wrap, Kim used two colors of leathers and changed her laddering three with each wrap. The leather transition is hidden under the Pony Express beads and Hammered Spacer Bail with the Seek Pendant. All laddering and macramé is done with Fine C-Lon with the exception of the green section, here Kim chose Willow 0.4 Chinese Knotting Cord for color!
The last macrame section before the button loop uses a "bead bridge" idea first brought about in a Prairie Wrap, see Page 7 of these Episode Notes for more info.
Check out Macramé With a Twist for a how-to on the purple bracelet. Each twisting "spiral staircase" of macramé knots is made with Purple Fine C-Lon and purple, pink, and white beads on 1.0mm leather. Use Petite Distressed End Caps to secure the ends, and attach jump rings (making your own chain!) at one and and a lobster claw at the other to make adjustable. Add tassels, charms, or a drop like Kim!
