Playing Possum 11.23 Recipe
Project Map
This year, we're looking at "The World Around Us." Be it a place, a work of art, a piece of music, even a scent! For November, Drea thought of one of her favorite animals.
Possums are one of those critters that seem to get a bad rap--but they're really very helpful little creatures! Drea thinks they're adorable and hilarious. They are also essential part to our ecosystem and, quite honestly, a fabulous color palette.
When Drea's friend, photographer and all-around wonderful person Lauren Smith Kennedy, started volunteering at Maine's Saco River Wildlife Center Drea was treated to incredible stories and photos of local wildlife being rescued, rehabilitated, and released. Among her favorites? The opossums, of course! So when Lauren got the bright idea to combine Taylor Swift and Opossums in a fundraising t-shirt design, Drea hopped right on board.
The shirts have raised over $30,000 so far...but it's not enough. Since 2015, SRWC's annual wildlife intakes have been growing in numbers. This past year alone, they have doubled their intake of animals! They are in dire need of new space that will include an exam room, intake area, isolation units, larger overwinter space, and more! This is urgently needed to provide more quality care, space, sanitation, and to separate the center from living quarters. With this new space, SRWC can expand to help even more sick, injured, or orphaned wildlife.
This is where we come in. $1 from each tube of November's Mix, Playing Possum, will be donated to the Saco River Wildlife Center.
