Sand Cast-Brown Rock
10x12mm Glass Barrel Bead IHD Varies: 1.5-2mm
It’s hard to tell if these are stones or glass…Looking very much like rocks, these sand cast beads are made from recycled glass. Local artisans of the Krobo Mountains in Ghana begin by making a fine powder of the glass and heating it until it will pour into individual bead molds. A stalk from the Cassava tree is used to form the hole and as the bead is fired (in a kiln made from termite clay), the twig burns away, leaving a hole. Each bead is unique, so love the variations in size, shape and coloring.
