How to Use Braided Leather

Project Info:

Level: Beginner

Estimated time: 1 Hour ( or less!)

Project By: Janice Parsons

In almost no time, you can make a very cool wrap bracelet with three ingredients. We can’t say it makes itself…but almost! For a great weekend look, for the guy in your life, for that person who likes simple, this simple design uses two lengths of braided leather fitted into a magnetic clasp. You can go from a once-around-design to a 3-5 wrap. You can make it in one color or two…up to you!

Project Map

  1. Begin by loosely fitting one length of the braided leather around your wrist. Decide how many times you want it to wrap. The clasp will add 1/4 inch to the finished length. Cut two lengths of braided leather straight across using sharp scissors or wire cutters to the desired length.
  2. Keep the two sides of the clasp connected, but glue one side at a time.
  3. Insert glue into one side of the clasp. Use only a quick-drying, 2 coat epoxy, like Zap Glue. You want an adhesive that is intended to work with leather. Insert both pieces of braided leather into the opening of the clasp making sure they lay flat and side-by-side. Check that the preferred side of the braided leather is facing up. (Not all colors have alternating color, like Natural does, so it might not matter). Carefully wipe away any excess glue, using caution the glue doesn’t smear onto the braided leather. Allow time to dry (see package instructions for manufacturer’s suggested drying time).
  4. Wrap the braided leather around your wrist to check again how many times you want it to wrap. Repeat Step 3 to glue in the second side. You’re ready to go!
