Using Endtips

This technique shows you how to use traditional endtips to finish off your knotted pieces. Check out our Pearl Knotting and Gem Knotting handouts for further instructions on how to knot your favorite gems and perals.

Ingredients

- 1 pair traiditonal end tips
- Bead cap set
- Collapsible eye needle
- Hypo-tube cement glue

- Thread scissors
- Wire cutters
- Needle-nose chain pliers
- Tape measure or ruler

Thread the needle

Step 2

Make a double knot by pinching the ends together and looping them around your index and middle finger.  Wind the ends of the thread ends through the inside of the loop twice.

Pull the knot tight and dab with Hypo-Cement glue.  Thread on your endcap so the knot lays inside the cup.

Next, thread on your endcap so it cups the first bead you string.

Thread on your last bead, followed by your cap so it is cupping the last bead, followed by your end tip so the hook is facing out.

Cutt off the needle, leaving two tails to make a modified square knot.  Place the right thread over the left and wind the top thread over the bottom thread three times.

Tighten your knot, making sure that the first part of the square knot falls inside the endtip without wrapping itself around the hook.

Tie another modified square knot, this time placing the left thread over the right.  Wind the top over the bottom two times.

Pull your knot tight, again, making sure it is not wrapped around the hook.  Dab with Hypocement to secure the knot.

Using a vry fine wire cutter or thread scissors, cut all but 1/16" of the remaining thread.

Hook your clasp onto the hook of the end tip.

Using the needle-nose chain pliers, gently close the end tip.  Push the end so it gets securely pushed down into the cup of the end tip.
